Getting married is a happy affair, so planning your wedding must make you happy too. Here are six things to avoid doing if you want your wedding planning to be as stress-free as possible.
Getting married is a happy affair, so planning your wedding must make you happy too. Here are six things to avoid doing if you want your wedding planning to be as stress-free as possible.
1. Don’t forget to give your families time to get to know each other before the wedding.
If you and your fiancée’s immediate families haven’t met before he put a ring on it, don’t make their first meeting be during your wedding. It will be terribly awkward, and there won’t be time to talk during the big day. Host a simple engagement dinner to both celebrate your upcoming marriage, to give the two families the chance to mingle and get to know one another.
2. Don’t blow your budget.
Saving up your money from your wedding budget is one of the best gifts you can give yourself as you start your new life together. Plus, having more money saved up is way better than starting your married life already in debt. Spending your budget should be done as a team. Like if the expense is something that you’ll use directly on your own, like your hair and makeup or your wedding gown, you must still ask permission from your hubby to be. It’s both your big day, and it’s both your money, so you have to make all the decisions together.
3. Don’t just do things just because everyone’s doing it.
There are so many things that you can do in your wedding, like releasing butterflies during your grand entrance or doing a “thrash the dress” photo shoot. But not just because you’ve seen a certain trend happen in some weddings, it means that it’s right for you. Think about all the elements present in your wedding, and ask yourself if it’s important. Wedding gown, of course. Super expensive wedding favors, probably not.
4. Don’t forget to get used to your wedding gown before the wedding day.
Wearing your wedding gown for the first time on your wedding day might make you feel uncomfortable, or worse, you won’t know how to walk in it. Just like a pair of new shoes, “break in” your wedding gown by wearing it for a few minutes everyday before the big day. Remember to walk around in it also while wearing your bridal shoes, too.
5. Don’t try a whole new look just for your wedding.
It’s best to look like the best version of yourself on your wedding day, not like your favorite celebrity. Get your beauty treatments—like getting your hair cut or coloring, getting a facial, and the like—a few weeks before your wedding, just to make sure that if something goes wrong, there’s still time to fix the mistake.
6. Don’t plan your bachelorette or bachelor party the night before.
We’ve all watched The Hangover, and as funny as it was, it makes you realize that having a big party too close to your actual wedding opens you up to headaches or feeling bad during the day itself. Play on the safe side and throw your party a week or two before the wedding, so that you’ll have time to rest and feel relaxed and calm when the day comes.
